For all other noise related concerns, including installation or operation of a heat pump or air conditioning unit please follow the appropriate municipal guidance and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sammamish Municipal code does not <\/em>give decibel limits and does not mention heat pump or air conditioners. It says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is unlawful for any person to cause, or for any person in possession of property to allow to originate from said property, sound that is a public nuisance. The following sources of sound are defined to be public nuisances, except to the extent that they may be specifically exempted by other provisions of this chapter<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

…and includes sources such as: motor vehicle, siren, audi equipment, and public address system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Do King County noise limits apply?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: No, they do not. King County sets specific decibel limits for noise<\/a>. However, these are for unincorporated King County (the parts of King County that are not already towns or cities), and do not apply to Sammamish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you for your email. The Department of Ecology sets noise\/decibel standards as a guide for jurisdictions that have not adopted a local noise ordinance. Sammamish has adopted a noise ordinance, and therefore, the Department of Ecology or King County regulations would not apply. Sammamish Municipal Code (SMC) 8.15, Public Disturbance Noise, does not specify decibel requirements or specifically regulate noise from air conditioners\/heat pumps. However, permits are required for the installation of these unit, and they are inspected to ensure they abide by the manufacturer\u2019s installation instructions.\u00a0
